Sarah Morgan is a television personality who you might know from the radio show ‘Lex & Terry‘. In her spare time though, she’s also an animal lover and expert who works at an exotic bird shop and who helps with many rescues and re-homing programs. You can follow her on Twitter and Facebook for more information on her work.

She kindly agreed to answer some of our questions and to explain how she manages to balance her many skills and passions:

Q1. To get started, could you please give our readers a brief overview of what you do in your own words

I am the female personality on a nationally syndicated morning radio show called “Lex & Terry” where we do news, sports, and comedy… it’s pretty much 5 hours of hanging out with a few of your closest friends and telling dirty jokes and seeing who can get the most laughs. It’s great! I’m also an on-field host/MC for the Frisco Rough Riders baseball team which is the feeder team for the Texas Rangers. On the weekends I work at an exotic bird shop where we sell all bird products (toys, perches, food, etc) as well as birds. We do tons of rescues and re-homings there as well which I absolutely love. I’m a very busy lady, but I love all of my jobs so that makes it pretty easy!

Q2. What was it that made you decide you wanted to work with animals?

I decided that I wanted to work with animals from a very young age. I had my first pets when I was about 4 or 5 starting with an anole lizard and followed by snakes, dogs and more. I grew up watching Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin and was fascinated by them and what they did and I knew from that point on that I wanted to do something like that. I never lost that passion and still haven’t to this day. I created my own company when I was in high school called “Exotic Experience” where I would take in rescued reptiles and a few other types of animals and I would do educational animal presentations for schools, parties, after school clubs/groups, etc. It was a blast! I was also a veterinary technician for 4 years which I enjoyed, but it was very hard to be around sick and injured animals all of the time. Even though I was there trying to help it never got easier to see pets and their owners in pain. I also do some rehabilitation with animals here in Texas that have been injured or babies that have been abandoned. For example, I found 3 baby possums a few years ago and their mother had been hit and killed so I bottle fed them many times a day until they got old enough to eat and drink and get around on their own and I released them at a wildlife preserve. My absolute dream is to have my own animal show where I travel the world and educate the audience on different animals and show just how amazing and beautiful they are, just as my childhood heroes did, but for now I’m doing what I can and will never give up on that dream.

Q3. What do you think some things are that more people could do to look after their own pets?

I think something that people can do to better look after their pets is just to pay attention and be a good pet owner! Take your pet to the vet regularly… make sure they get their shots, their checkups and more because they need that stuff just as we do. Also, spay and neuter your pets people! If you’re not going to breed then there is no reason not to get this done. Another pet peeve of mine(no pun intended) is when people get a pet and don’t research the specific animal before hand… know what you are getting into! If you’re home only a few hours a day don’t go get a boxer puppy that needs tons of exercise and attention. I use that specifically as an example because I met a woman the other day trying to re-sale her boxer puppy because of the “not enough time” issue… It erks me. If people would just be responsible and research these things beforehand then there would be tons of happy pets and pet owners and much fewer abandoned pets in shelters and on the streets.

Q4. Do you have any pets of your own?

I currently have 2 pets – a 2 year old Goffins Cockatoo named Gatsby and a 3 year old Eleanora Cockatoo named Lee Loo. I’ve had Gatsby since he was about 5 months old. I took in Lee Loo when her family gave her up a couple of years ago because they are highly allergic and cockatoos put off TONS of dust and dander. (Which brings me back to my last point, do your research!) My fids(feather kids) are my life. I’ve been through some pretty tough times recently and I honestly don’t know what I would do without them being there to cuddle up with me and make me laugh.

Q5. Could you tell our readers a little about the Lex & Terry Show, and your role in the show?

The Lex & Terry Show started over 20 years ago in Florida and they’ve been broadcasting out of Dallas for quite a while now. The show is nationally syndicated and can be heard all over the country as well as on our FREE app for iPhone and Android(just titled “Lex & Terry” with an yellow logo) and you can watch the show on Ustream as well. I am the only girl on the show with 4 other guys so things get a little crazy at times. I definitely have to have thick skin working there which can be tough at times, but I do really enjoy what I do. Aside from being an on-air personality with them I also screen all of the phone calls that go on the air, operate the cameras and the online Ustream show, edit all of the audio for the daily podcast and uncensored after show and I also do the producing on the show when the executive producer is out. I’ve been with Lex & Terry for over 6 years now and have learned so much. The only negative thing about this job: getting up at 3:30am every morning… I don’t think I will EVER get used to that!

Q6. Do you have any upcoming projects or events you’d like to share with our audience?

The only appearance I have lined up right now is coming up pretty soon! I will be in Pensacola, FL from 7/31-8/2 taking a scuba diving refresher course with MBT Divers and I will be diving the USS Oriskany which was (intentionally) sunk in 2006 and is the world’s largest artificial reef! I’m pretty excited about this! I will also be doing a meet and greet appearance the night of 8/1 and the location of that will be announced soon. You guys can see where I will be on all of my social medias PLUS hit me up anytime to talk about your pets or animals in general! I am always down for that!
